The second step in preparing to recite the names of God is to purify your chakras. Your chakras are the spiritual centers located along your spinal column. They are invisible to the physical eye, yet your very life and spiritual progress depend on their vitality (see illustration of the chakras). As I said in chapter 4, the chakras are centers for receiving and distributing the energy of God that flows to and from you each day. Each chakra has a unique function and frequency, denoted by a symbolic number of petals. As the light of the Divine Mother (the Kundalini) rises from the base of the spine and activates the chakras one by one, each chakra begins to spin. The chakra opens its petals, signifying the unfoldment of latent spiritual powers.”

“Unfortunately, our negative interactions with one another throughout this life and our past lives have caused karmic debris to accumulate around our chakras. This debris is like the soggy leaves that clog up a drain after a rain. In order for the water to run through the drain, you need to clear away the leaves. Likewise, in order for God’s light to flow through your chakras, you need to clear the effluvia that clings to them. Let me take an analogy from the ancient Oriental art of Feng Shui. According to the principles of Feng Shui, clutter and the arrangement of your environment determine how energy will flow through your surroundings. How that energy flows will powerfully affect your health, your wealth, your relationships and the very course of your life. In the same way, karmic clutter in your body, mind and emotions can cause the energy within and around you to stagnate. We all have varying degrees of karmic clutter that has calcified around our chakras. As a result, we don’t feel as free, light, happy, vibrant and spiritual as we could. When our chakras are clogged, we can feel sluggish, pessimistic or sick without even knowing why. When they are clear, we feel positive, energetic, joyful and generous. Since our chakras are sending-and-receiving stations capable of broadcasting God’s light to the world, we have a responsibility to purify them before invoking God’s light. I’ve watched thousands of people successfully clear their chakras by using a unique spiritual energy in their prayers known as the violet flame.”

“In chapter 4, I talked about the seven rays of spiritual light, each one having a specific color, frequency and quality. When you invoke any one of the rays in the name of God, it manifests as a “flame.” (You could compare this to a ray of sunlight that passes through a magnifying glass and creates a flame.) Thus, metaphysical teachers speak about the seven spiritual flames, such as the blue flame or the yellow flame. The violet flame is the seventh of these flames. When invoked in prayer, each of the spiritual flames creates a specific positive action. The violet flame creates an action of transmutation. To transmute is to alter in form, appearance or nature, especially to change something into a higher form. The term transmutation was used by alchemists who attempted to transmute base metals into gold, separating the “subtle” from the “gross” by means of heat. For ancient and medieval alchemists, the real purpose of alchemical transmutation was spiritual transformation. That is precisely what the violet flame does for us. When we diligently invoke it through heartfelt prayer, the violet flame consumes the “gross” elements of our negative karma and activates the “subtle,” spiritual part of us that is native to our soul. The violet flame can literally consume the debris around our chakras. Using the violet flame is like soaking your chakras in a chemical solution that dissolves, layer by layer, the negative karmic substance that has been trapped there for perhaps thousands of years. The buildup of misqualified energy around our chakras can blunt the effectiveness of our prayers. If our chakras are clogged, the light of Ein Sof we invoke in our prayers will become tainted as it flows through us. As the light passes through, it then takes on our negatives. This is why it is so important to clear our chakras and the passageways that connect them before we invoke the names of God. When properly applied, the violet flame clears the channels of the chakras so there is a pure flow of Ein Sof’s energy through the sefirot to our physical and spiritual bodies.”
